Mission The mission of SLCC Debate is to foster ambition, confidence, and critical thinking in our community. We connect our students with opportunities for leadership, competition, and networking with peers at other colleges, while also building our school’s network and reputation among the collegiate debate community.
Membership BenefitsClub Membership is open to everyone. Note, however, that there are levels of membership and many benefits are only accessible through higher levels. The following is an overview of SLCC Debate Membership Tiers and their benefits/requirements:Tier 1: Open Membership- Open to all, only requirement is must be a SLCC student. - You get to say that you're a member of SLCC Debate.Tier 2: Voting Member- If you've attended at least 1 weekly meeting within the last 30 days and you're in good standing with the club, then congrats! You're a *Voting Member!*- This allows you to vote on club business.Tier 3: Full Team Member- Team Members are eligible to travel with the club to tournaments and events. They also receive: 2) An Exclusive Team Jacket, and 3) Their name and professional photo proudly displayed on the SLCC Debate website and historic roster. You'll always be a SLCC Debate Team member. - In order to join, you will need to first attend at least 3 consecutive weekly meetings, then maintain a >50% average attendance rate. - You will also not be able to miss more than 6 consecutive weekly meetings (excepted with some extreme exceptions, outlined in the club Constitution). - Finally, you will need to log >3 documented outreach hours for the club (tabling, putting up flyers, etc.) per term. - Those jackets are pricey, you gotta earn that swag.
