Just a few more activities for this year! We hope you are all managing to hang in there and finish out the semester strong! We will still have our usual meeting on top of the additional activities this week and next, so we hope to see you there!
Suture Clinic
TOMORROW, Tuesday March 26th we are very fortunate to have Dr. Kathy Bell, professor of Microbiology and Physiology here at SLCC as well as a veterinarian help us out by hosting a suture clinic! We will be learning how to apply sutures to various wounds with some practice suture pads. Supplies will be provided so come and learn a new skill! This should be a great chance to practice some skills that may come in handy for many of us in the future. Hope to see you there!

Perfusion gest
Have you ever heard of Prefusion as a medical profession? We hadn’t until last year, but its one of may smaller branches of medicine that few know about. From the U of U website for the Master program it states that perfusionists…”are vital members of the cardiovascular surgical team as they are responsible for running the heart-lung (cardiopulmonary bypass) machine and are heavily relied on by surgeons. During surgery, they utilize the appropriate equipment to maintain blood flow to the body’s tissues and regulate levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood. Perfusionists are also responsible for measuring selected laboratory values and monitoring circulation. They also administer medicines through the cardiopulmonary bypass circuit, among other responsibilities in the surgical setting.” Sounds fascinating! On April 2nd at 12:30 we have the honor of hearing all about it from Suzy Gentry who has been a practicing perfusionist at several hospitals in the Salt Lake area. She is going to go into what the education and work is like as a medical perfusionist. Please come and learn about this interesting branch of medicine!

Micro Health Fair
Wednesday April 3rd we will be hosting a micro mental and physical health fair. We know that the end of the semester can be busy and challenging, so we wanted to take just a little time to help our fellow students take a minute to breath and relax during a stressful finals season. Our very own Diana will lead a yoga session and we will have healthy snacks available as well as students to take vitals to make sure you aren’t too stressed out ๐ Mark your calendars and come to our next meeting to see how you can help!
