Come read with kids at the library! We are looking for two student volunteers to help kids with reading throughout the Spring 2026 semester
  • When: Every Tuesday & Thursday from 3-4pm
  • Where: (Ruth Vine) Tyler Library in Midvale
  • What: Listening to and helping kids read aloud while providing a relaxed, nonjudgmental environment to encourage confidence and fluency
No prior experience necessary! Training and a library tour will be provided prior to the start of Reading Buddies. A successful volunteer will be great with kids, patient with learning, and excited about reading!

This is an ongoing volunteer commitment, so signing up means committing to all Reading Buddies sessions*. With a one hour training session, this amounts to 27 hours of volunteering, perfect for community engagement classes!
*Missing a couple sessions due to sickness or vacation is okay - that's why we're looking for two volunteers!

About Reading Buddies: Reading Buddies is a drop-in program for kids, targeted for kids in grades K-5. Kids can either bring their own book or select one from the library. They will sit down with you and read out loud as you offer gentle help with pronunciation if needed. Kids can read for as long as they'd like, with a recommended time of 15-20 minutes. They get a special prize after they're done!
Note: All are welcome at the library and its programs, so there is a chance you may work with a preteen, teen, or adult seeking help with reading.
