High-Impact Practices (HIPs)

Service-Learning is offered by the SLCC Engaged Learning Office. In service-learning courses, you get to be engaged in your community and make a difference! This is a High-Impact Practice (HIP) that allows you to learn course content and discover firsthand how it applies in the real world. Here are some opportunities for Service-Learning courses http://www.slcc.edu/service-learning/docs/service-learning-courses.pdf. You can register for any of these designated service-learning courses and then document your learning experience in your ePortfolio as part of your HIP. You can also request funding up to $500 to offset costs directly related to your service-learning projects! Learn more about Service-Learning here or contact Lucy Smith or Cassi Hoffmeister

Dorothy Ilada, an SLCC Dental Hygienist student and recipient of the Engaged Learning award, provided dental health education to elementary students in the underserved communities as part of her service-learning experience. Check out her ePortfolio!

Mark it on your calendars! Honors Program High-Impact Practice (HIP) opportunity:
ePortfolio Workshop – Honors Program
Virtual (Webex or Zoom)
Wednesday, September 23rd from 10 AM – 11 AM
All SLCC Honors Program students are required to have an Honors ePortfolio to document their progress toward completing the honors requirements. The SLCC ePortfolio team will lead a virtual workshop designed for Honors Program students to create a new ePortfolio using the Honors Program ePortfolio template (or learn how to move information/assignments/attachments if you have already created an ePortfolio). Learn why ePortfolio is a High-Impact Practice (HIP), learn how to add assignments, reflections, pictures/links, and Honors Program High-Impact Practices and Enrichment Experiences descriptions and reflections.
